Background
The background of Systema Copenhagen may be described as follows:
- Sytema is the Russian Martial Art that has become more and more famous since the overthrow of the Soviet Union when ex-SPETSNAZ soldiers left Russia for western countries. There, they have been teaching and preforming this efficient, lethal and scientific martial art. However, the first records referring to Systema date from 948 AD when Systema was developed by the early Cossacks who were a highly trained border patrol and paramilitary society in Russia.
- Throughout its history, Russia has been forced to repel enemies from east, west, north and south. Each different invader had a particular way of fighting and different weaponry. As a result of this situation, Russian warriors had to be prepared to fight against any enemy, on a wide range of terrain such as deserts, mountains, rivers, and under various conditions ranging from the heat of sweltering summers to the cold of freezing winters.
- As a result, Russian warriors developed a system of combat that is natural and without a rigid structure and strict rules or limitations which is completely the opposite of many Asian styles. Systema teaches no fighting stance, but to fight from all positions. There are no fixed training patterns or combinations of movements. All training is based on the reality that unexpected things happen during combat.
